The electrologist slides a very thin probe into the hair follicle then applies a very tiny amount of electric current to the papilla. Then, with electrologists forceps, slides the hair out.

Each follicle must be individually treated. The currents must be adjusted to suit each type of hair and area on the skin since hairs can be of different types and individual skin areas may have a different sensitivity and chemistry. This requires the trained expertise of a professional operator and the patience of the client.

Hair growth has a life cycle. There are always some resting follicles which will begin to grow in a few weeks or months. This is where patience and trust in your electrologist is important. Your electrologist will advise you not to tweeze or otherwise remove emerging hairs between treatments since this will only delay the permanent removal of all hairs in the area.

The amount of growth to be removed determines the amount of time and number of treatments required to effectively remove all hairs from the area. Beware of any electrologist who tells you they can effectively remove the hair permanently with only one or two treatments - unless it is only one hair that is to be removed. The results can be so pleasing, and permanent, that it is well worth the time spent.

Remember though that even with the best treatment, some slight irritation can occur, but this should be very minimal.
